The PISTA® TURBO™ Grit Washer uses TRI-CLEANSE TECHNOLOGY™ to produce clean grit while minimizing the odor caused by putrescible organics and the costs associated with growing landfill restrictions. Featuring a sleek, compact design with a footprint similar to S&L’s screw conveyor, the system is well suited for plants with limited headworks space.
An inlet hopper receives the mixture of water and grit from the second-stage PISTA® Grit Concentrator, and an energy dissipation zone prevents turbulence in the remaining portion of the hopper. Parallel plates located in the settling zone of the hopper further improve the retention of fine grit particles.
A custom-engineered, patented screw with a continuous shaft design off the flight segment contains mixer and fluidizing vanes in the washer hopper, working together to deliver a triple washing action that produces drier, cleaner grit with less putrescible organic material and less associated odor.
A dedicated PLC controller manages the washer through its various operating cycles, controlling air infusion, grit wash water and spray water to keep the process running efficiently with just one motor and drive to maintain.
