OPTIFLOW 270® Baffle System

The OPTIFLOW 270® Baffle System enhances the hydraulic performance and grit removal efficiency of the PISTA® 270™ Vortex Grit Chamber. By improving the internal vortex flow path, the system allows more fine grit to remain within the chamber for effective separation and removal.

The OPTIFLOW 270®B exit baffle is positioned inside the grit chamber near the outlet. It redirects the wastewater towards the grit hopper, providing an additional pass across the chamber’s flat floor and increasing the opportunity for grit particles to settle.

By reducing the weir effect at the chamber outlet, the OPTIFLOW 270®B helps prevent fine grit from escaping with the effluent. The baffle also improves the chamber’s toroidal flow path, supporting grit removal efficiencies of 95% for particles down to 150 µm.

For applications where the lowest operating flow is less than 60% of the system’s design flow, the OPTIFLOW 270®LFB inlet baffle maintains the influent velocity required for proper entry into the chamber vortex. This helps the PISTA® 270™ maintain effective grit capture across substantial variations in flow.

Frequently Asked Questions

The OPTIFLOW 270® Baffle System improves the internal hydraulic flow path of the PISTA® 270™ Grit Chamber. It keeps more fine grit within the chamber, directs flow towards the grit hopper and increases the opportunity for particles to settle onto the flat chamber floor.

The exit baffle redirects wastewater towards the hopper for an additional pass across the flat-bottomed chamber floor. It also reduces the weir effect at the outlet, helping prevent fine grit from leaving the chamber with the effluent.

The OPTIFLOW 270®LFB is used when the lowest anticipated flow is less than 60% of the system’s design flow. It maintains the influent velocity needed to carry grit through the inlet channel and properly introduce it into the main chamber vortex.

When incorporated into the PISTA® 270™ Grit Chamber, the OPTIFLOW 270® Baffle System is designed to achieve 95% removal of grit particles down to 150 µm.

Yes. The combination of the exit baffle and the optional low-flow inlet baffle helps maintain the hydraulic conditions needed for grit capture when influent flows vary significantly between minimum and design conditions.
